Rhoss Lab
The Rhoss Eurovent Certified R&D Lab, one of the biggest laboratories in Europe for testing Refrigeration and Air Conditioning equipment
A testing station to meet current and future needs of the air conditioning and refrigeration sector to make possible the tests and European certifications required to validate performance, energy efficiency and quality control.
The best demonstration of the company's technical evolution
The Rhoss' R&D Lab has the facilities to evaluate aeraulic, thermic, electrical, electronic, acoustic and energy performance of water and air cooled chillers and heat pumps up to 1,500 kW.
The most advanced and exclusive equipment
- Midi-Maxi Climatic Rooms:- are provided with a double hydraulic system with removable partitions to allow simultaneous testing of 2 air or water cooled chillers or heat pumps, with a minimum air temperature of -15° C and no limit on maximum air temperature and minimum water temperature of -30° C and no limit maximum water temperature.
- Mini Climatic Room (Calorimetric):- with two thermo insulated rooms, is used for testing terminal units and small chillers/and heat pumps up to 12 kW.
- Hydraulic system:- designed to meet the heating and cooling needs of the entire laboratory testing structure and utilities. It is equipped with a 120cu/m accumulation tank containing a 50% glycol solution and an an inverter controlled pumped hot and cold water distribution system for each of the climatic rooms.
- Three areas for sound measurements:- two internal, for components and small units and a larger external one for testing Macro series units.
- Prototype workshop dedicated to the design and construction of prototypes, it is provided with the equipment required to make rapid alterations during the testing process.
The opportunities offered by R&D Lab
- The availability of training courses for maintenance and after-sales service personnel who have access to fully operational equipment.
- The opportunity for clients to witness the performance of their equipment according to contract conditions.
- The possibility for suppliers, university and research institutes to carry out thorough research into equipment and components in the air conditioning and refrigeration sector and to experiment with new ones.
Energy efficency certification
The true strength of the R&D Lab which projects Rhoss into the future, lies in its ability to calculate and certify the average seasonal energy consumption (energy index) of chillers and heat pumps under test: this not only refers to the old American energy index (IPLV - Integrated Part Load Value), but also to the ESEER (European Seasonal EER - now undergoing approval by the European Union) which will become the future reference parameter for European markets.
For this purpose, independently of capacity, the climatic room air must be kept at:
- 30° C with the chiller operating at 100%
- 25° C with the chiller operating partially at 75%
- 20° C with the chiller operating partially at 50%
- 20° C with the chiller operating partially at 25%
Most refrigeration and air conditioning test laboratories can be test at ambient temperatures above that of the ambient for which the appliance is designed, say 35°C, but not at a lower temperature. Rhoss has one of the few laboratories in the world which can test at temperatures up to 20°C lower than that of the external air temperature for which they are designed and at limited capacities.
In the Rhoss laboratory it is possible to create an ambient air temperature of -15°C, for testing free-cooling operation in all load conditions.
